The Story of How We Began

I can’t begin to tell you the story of how Jaffa Printing began without telling you a little about Grandpa Charlie. It's one of my favorite stories about overcoming adversity and never giving up.

Grandpa Charlie had a difficult childhood. He lost his mom when he was only 8 years of age and his dad a year later when he was 9. With both parents deceased he was left to be raised by his step mother who wasn’t very good to him. Even as a child he knew the odds were against him. He had to grow up fast in order to take care of himself.
At a young age he applied to get a job as a paper boy at the local newspaper. It was a crushing blow for him to learn that some other boy got the job, someone bigger, stronger more apt to do the things newspaper boys have to do.
The disappointment of not getting the job set something off inside him that day. It opened his mind to bigger things. He became determined to be more than just a paper boy.
Around the age of 13 he made plans to start his own printing company. A company that in his mind would someday put the newspaper that refused to hire him out of business. He was just a boy when he started his own business, Jaffa Printing Company.
Jaffa Printing had it’s humble beginnings in the garage of his home in the Avenues. Grandpa Charlie started off printing business cards and flyers. Although he never printed any newspapers, the business gradually grew to include all kinds of printing.
Eighty-four years after he first opened the doors of his business you can still hear the sound of the printing presses & smell the thick smell of ink as you walk through the door.
The process has changed with technology but Grandpa Charlie’s legacy lives on as we provide quality printing at affordable prices.
P.S. Several years ago a stone table along with some furniture with drawers full of handset type from our early days was donated to This is the Place Heritage Park and can be viewed ironically enough at the Deseret News Print Shop there.

Tips For Ordering Wedding Invitations

1- Order early. It is best to order 3 months prior to the date of your wedding. This allows plenty of time during the proofing process to make sure your invitation is exactly what you have envisioned. We will do as many proofs as you need to see until you LOVE your invitations!

2- It is a good idea to order 25 extra invitations. It it a lot less expensive to run off a few more rather than having to pay to have your invitations put back on the press at a later date.

3- If you are rushed for time. Ask for your envelopes early. You can begin addressing them while we are in the process of printing your invitations saving you time in the long run.

4- Let us help you with your wording. Invitations should follow certain rules of social etiquette. We have professionals who have been trained to offer suggestions and guide you in the process of wording your invitations properly.

5- When planning a budget for your invitations be sure to think about postage. Keep in mind that square invitations have to be hand cancelled at the post office and will cost more to mail.

6- Are you a bride on a budget? Be sure to check out our brides on a budget section on our website. We  have a large selection of invitations that will work with any budget. If you have something in mind and would like ideas on how to make it more affordable, just ask. We would be happy to make suggestions that will make your dream invitation come to life with any budget.

Classy Vintage Wedding Invitation

Vintage designs are all the rage in wedding invitations. This particular bride knew exactly what she wanted when she asked for a classy vintage design without a photo.

She fell in love with the Trellis Sleeve Invitation which she ordered on cream paper in shiny black raised print. It turned out beautifully!

I love how she went with a simple monogram on the wrap. The letter M worked for both the bride and groom's first names and their last name as well so it was perfect!

Royal Wedding Inspiration

It is a very exciting time as the royal wedding for Prince William & Kate Middleton takes place tomorrow. Wouldn't it be fun to incorporate a little bit of the excitement into your own wedding?
This is our grand tiffany size invitation with a horizontal layout just like William & Kate's. It has the same sophisticated font as the royal invite & can be printed in gold & black raised lettering. The gold raised border adds an elegant touch and is stunning as it shimmers in the light.

The top is adorned with your personal monogram, it's not quite the same as the Queen's insignia but just as elegant as you run your hand across it to feel the beautiful gold raised lettering.

We will be watching the royal wedding as it takes place tomorrow, hope you will be too!

The Royal Wedding Invitation: Prince William & Kate Middleton

Have you seen it yet? The invitation for the royal wedding is simple but beautiful. It is a thick white card quite large in size measuring 8 inches wide by 6 inches tall.  At the top you will find the Queens insignia, die stamped in gold & then varnished.

All 1,800 invitations were sent through the royal mail & each was adorned with a stamp of the Queen's profile. It was the wording however, that intrigued me the most.

The Lord Chamberlain is commanded by
The Queen to invite

to the Marriage of
His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales, K.G.
Miss Catherine Middleton
at Westminster Abbey
on Friday, 29th April, 2011 at 11:00 a.m.

Can you imagine being a guest that the queen has commanded the Lord Chamberlain to invite? Enchanting isn't it? I was also intrigued by the K.G. behind Prince William's name. It stands for his Knighthood.

At the bottom there is a specific request for a dress code of "uniform, morning coat or lounge suit." So what would you wear if you were on the guest list? I don't even know what a morning coat or a lounge suit is.
