Design Inspiration for Wedding Invitations

Inspiration for wedding invitation design can come from anywhere, especially from other areas of design. Here's a newly designed invitation with modern elements inspired by beautiful home design.
The gray ink hue came from the paint color on the walls of this room and the vibrant red, from the pillows and curtains. The ring pattern on the back of the invitation was inspired by the graphic artwork above the fireplace.

If you are looking for a custom invitation but don't know where to begin, start by looking at a picture of something you LOVE. The elements that speak to you can be combined to make an invitation that is unique to you.

At Jaffa Printing, that's what we're known for, a custom look without a custom price! You can change up any invitation until it's the right fit for you.

Wedding Invitations 101: Digital Printing verses Offset Printing

How do you know if you should choose digital or offset printing for your wedding invitations?

Put on your glasses everyone, welcome to class! In Wedding Invitations 101 today, we are going to break it down for you.

The first thing you should know is that digital printing is produced on a digital press which uses toner instead of ink whereas, offset printing is produced on a traditional roller press which uses ink that comes out of a can.

At Jaffa Printing, we offer both digital and offset printing. It is important to understand both methods of printing so that you can choose the one that's right for you.

OFFSET PRINTING:

Upon walking into the print shop, you will smell the thick aroma of ink and hear the hum of rollers turning. These are the sounds and scents of traditional offset printing.

If you are interested in using a metallic ink or doing raised printing then offset printing is definitely the method for you as these options are not available on a digital press.

If you have a preference for the ink to have more of a matte look, you should choose flat offset printing. Which brings me to my next point.

Another benefit to this method of printing is that both flat and raised printing are available on an offset press. But keep in mind that if you choose raised ink, the ink will take on more of a shiny shimmery look.

It is important to note that offset printing is usually a more expensive method of printing. It is a much more involved process that requires burning plates, hand mixing ink and washing down rollers.

This method takes more time because it is more involved but also because in offset printing, the ink comes off the press wet and needs plenty of time to dry.

DIGITAL PRINTING:
If you are interested in flat printing, low prices, or beautiful photographic invitations then you should choose the digital method of printing.

If you like smooth paper and prefer the ink finish to have a little bit of a sheen, this would be another reason for you to choose the digital method of printing.

The most common reason people choose digital over offset printing is for the FAST turnaround. If time is of the essence, you should definitely choose digital.

See, now that wasn't so bad, was it? Imagine how impressed your friends & family will be by your newly acquired knowledge in printing.

Now I know what you are thinking, you are wondering about the price difference aren't you. Click here to see an example of the PRICE difference between digital and offset methods of printing.

Wedding Invitations 101: How to Choose the Perfect Font

There are so many incredible fonts. How do you choose the right fonts for your wedding invitation? Here's 3 tips on how to narrow it down.

Tip #1: It helps to choose your favorite fonts from a list and then narrow them down by looking at the capital letters on both your names. Sometimes you will think that you LOVE a font and then you see your name in it and you end up HATING it because of a funky capital letter.

Tip #2: If you decide to go with more than one font on your invitation try NOT to pick fonts that have a lot of personality as they kind of battle each other on the page. Choose a font for the text that is simple & easy to read then have fun with the fonts on your names.

Tip #3: Remember to use your fonts to reflect the tone of your wedding. If there is a formal theme to your wedding choose a formal script like Bickham or Andante. If you are going for a more casual look, pick a font that looks more like handwriting such as Scriptina or Zaphino.

QR Code on Wedding Invitations

I’m excited to tell you about what’s NEW in wedding invitations! If you have a smart phone than you are probably already familiar with QR codes. They are codes that you photograph with your phone that take you directly to a website.

What’s so great about using a QR code on your wedding invitation? It will direct your guests to your wedding website where they can find more information about your wedding. You can include directions, accommodation information, even fun stuff like the story of how the two of you met.

My FAVORITE thing about using a QR code is that you can include information about where you’re registered. No more worrying about if it’s tacky or not to include your registry on the invitations. It will all be listed on your website, easily accessible to guests by taking a quick picture with their phone.

A QR code can be incorporated onto the back of any wedding invitation. If your guests don’t have a smart phone, you have nothing to worry about as the web address can be listed right below the code. Impress your guests with the latest thing in invitations - A QR code. Isn't technology amazing!

The Story of How We Began

I can’t begin to tell you the story of how Jaffa Printing began without telling you a little about Grandpa Charlie. It's one of my favorite stories about overcoming adversity and never giving up.

Grandpa Charlie had a difficult childhood. He lost his mom when he was only 8 years of age and his dad a year later when he was 9. With both parents deceased he was left to be raised by his step mother who wasn’t very good to him. Even as a child he knew the odds were against him. He had to grow up fast in order to take care of himself.

At a young age he applied to get a job as a paper boy at the local newspaper. It was a crushing blow for him to learn that some other boy got the job, someone bigger, stronger more apt to do the things newspaper boys have to do.

The disappointment of not getting the job set something off inside him that day. It opened his mind to bigger things. He became determined to be more than just a paper boy.

Around the age of 13 he made plans to start his own printing company. A company that in his mind would someday put the newspaper that refused to hire him out of business. He was just a boy when he started his own business, Jaffa Printing Company.

Jaffa Printing had it’s humble beginnings in the garage of his home in the Avenues. Grandpa Charlie started off printing business cards and flyers. Although he never printed any newspapers, the business gradually grew to include all kinds of printing.

Eighty-four years after he first opened the doors of his business you can still hear the sound of the printing presses & smell the thick smell of ink as you walk through the door.

The process has changed with technology but Grandpa Charlie’s legacy lives on as we provide quality printing at affordable prices.

P.S. Several years ago a stone table along with some furniture with drawers full of handset type from our early days was donated to This is the Place Heritage Park and can be viewed ironically enough at the Deseret News Print Shop there.
